Thanx to Holycaust Records I finally got my hands on this obviously very hard to find debut MCD by Norway’s 1349. Unfortunately it is lacking in the frontcover / booklet, so I can’t really give you much inside information. But after having listened to it a few times now, I can’t really understand why drummer Frost is so upset about the featured material. To me the band’s three own tunes ‘End Of All’, ‘Antichrist Warzone’ and ‘Chaos Within’ were definitely very promising already – always raw as fuck, aggressive and blessed with a cold’n’dark Black Metal atmosphere that only Norwegian bands of the early 90s generation were able to create. Only the CELTIC FROST cover of ‘The Usurper’ didn’t really manage to impress me, to say the least. It is suffering from a worse sound (maybe it’s even just a rehearsal?!) and by no means lives up to the band’s own material or does the original version any justice. Nevertheless, the potential of these guys got out in the underground very quickly and as a result 1349 got signed by Candlelight Records in the meantime. Their debut album "Liberation" (which – apart from a MAYHEM cover, features all new material!) should be available in early 2003 (but you can already check out a review and interview on our website!).
