ABOMINATION

ABOMINATION is a Death Metal band from Paraguay. Their name may not be the most original ever (Speckmann’s band would always be the first to come to my head) and, in fact, the most surprising thing about them is that although they seem to have existed since 1995, this tape with little more than ten minutes of music is their first-ever release… 22 years later! They play old school Death Metal, in the vein of, say, NECROPHAGIA, IMPETIGO or AUTOPSY and originality is pretty much absent, beginning right away with the old horror movie intro (more prone to induce chuckles than fear). Only 50 of these tapes were released, half green and half yellow, apparently marked with blood (on stickers on the tapes just like the ones we used to stick on our home recorded tapes back in the 80s), and including a linen certificate inked with pig blood & ash. The tape looks fine, with pro-printed 2-sided inlay, cover artwork that is a macabre photoshop affair, and the lyrics, that deal with murder and cannibalism. Other than all this, if you’re into this kind of music, you should in fact give this a go. The production is fucking heavy, and the songs are actually rather good. They play well, the drummer delivers a mean double bass drum on occasion and there are fine moments. I quite like the chorus of ‘Meatgrinder’ or the way Andres Godoy drags his brutally low-end vocals into the pit of bass in ‘Insane’. A good demo, but rather short. I’d listen to more with pleasure.
