ACROSTIC, from Chile, is back with their third full-length release, “Cosmo(A)gonía”. Dropped in October 2024 via Alkolik Holocaust Records on CD, this 10-track album is a fiery addition to their discography, which spans over two decades. Formed in the early 2000s, ACROSTIC have released one single, two prior full-lengths and four demos. I find their style blending a fast-forward, aggressive Thrash Metal with a kind of Hardcore / Punk edge, giving their sound a raw and rebellious attitude. “Cosmo(A)gonía” showcases the band’s energy, channeling ferocious riffing and rapid drumming. Their lyrics are in Spanish and for me, amplify the album’s intensity. From start to finish, the tracks burst with aggression while maintaining a reminiscent sound of early Thrash days influences. However, when I tried to “classify” their sound I have to admit that I was in trouble as I found some other influences and they took me back to even bands like V8, BARÓN ROJO, KREATOR, SODOM, LA PESTILENCIA or MASACRE 68. So, putting things in order, they explode from a certain range of sounds to my ears, making this “complicated” to classify to me. I would highlight some tracks like ‘La Fila Hambrienta Y Gris’, ‘Edificios’, ‘Panzerkunst’ or ‘Destrucción’ (V8 cover) which encapsulate the old essence of the band, staying true to their original style, but something that captured my attention was the fact that they, being from Chile, a country from the Andes, closed the album with ‘La Era Dorada’, a song that brings that Andean folklore to this album, giving this one a completely different vibe to finish. That was interesting. And even when more bands had done that same thing, I need to say that it was a breakthrough here. “Cosmo(A)gonía” makes ACROSTIC part of this driving force in the South American Thrash Metal scene and if you like Thrash with a Punk infused attitude, you will find much to love in this offering.
