ADOPERTA TENEBRIS is a Black / Death Metal project from Nantes, France. “Oblivion: The Forthcoming Ends” is the second full length under this moniker and released on the excellent Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions. The album opens with ‘We Were Giants’ which starts with a gentle slow approach, the instruments sound stellar with the accompanying riffs carrying the song forward. The vocals pay homage to the old school Death Metal greats, whilst the riffs are in the vein of the first wave of Black Metal, with the rhythm section borrowing heavily from the Death Metal repertoire. The song ends just as it is picking up a definite path. Anyway, this is a good beginning to the album albeit a regular one, as we move to the track # 2, ‘Vultures Over The Mass Grave’, things pick up. ADOPERTA TENEBRIS’s approach seems pretty straightforward, there are no tricks here, no BPM chants and no mantras or promises of heaviness. This is raw, aggressive, in-your-face Black / Death Metal that delivers consistently throughout the album. The vocals are mixed slightly higher in the mix, but the instruments don’t shy away. The riffs are quick and effective and the atmosphere builds latently. ADOPERTA TENEBRIS is simple with the approach. No, this isn’t a brand new direction of the genre, this is celebration of what we’ve loved throughout. The blastbeats kick in when necessary, the riffing picks up pace to reflect the tone, the vocals compliment the mood superbly. This is out and out for fans of primitive Metal attack. Picking up pieces from the fathers of Black Metal and fusing it with the viciousness of Death Metal, ADOPERTA TENEBRIS’s second full length is an easy outing. Considering this is a solo project, I have to call out the fact that all instrumentation and vocals are really well done!
