Echoes Of The Devil's Den

This is an interesting sound! This is the first time I’m listening to TERMINAL NATION and right from the start, the band’s sound is an infusion of old school Death Metal with modern twists. I doubt if the modern twist I’m thinking of is Hardcore or if it is just the adoption of the tone that the band chose. Otherwise, the Death Metal aspect of the album could be traced to any traditional Florida Death Metal act. The guitars are relentless with excellent riffing. ‘Written By The Victor’ is a prime example where the buzzsaw guitars rip through the atmosphere, the drumming is perfect, nothing in excess at any given point in time and complimenting the songwriting. TERMINAL NATION is in absolute control of what’s going on, this is a controlled chemical reaction of time. There’s a definite D-Beat influence which adds to the overall madness here. There’s one line that I picked up on track # 4, ‘No Reform (New Age Slave Patrol)’ where the singer goes “Fuck every cop that’s ever fucking lived” which completley caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting that at all. The confluence of Hardcore with old school Death Metal is relatively new for me, but I enjoy what is going on here. There are a ton of elements on TERMINAL NATION’s “Echoes Of The Devil’s Den” and I hope you’re able to spend time with it, because this album does need time to sink in entirely. Track # 6, ‘Embers Of Humanity’ takes a completely different approach and opens with a gentle guitar, very introspective and detailed. As the drums got added into the mix, I wondered where this would lead to and to no surprise, the band broke out into a beautiful melodic guitar solo that stretches beyond the vast plains. This is definitely a unique showcase of what the band can also do, they clearly can write good riffs and execute them to perfection. Such a beautiful track, I love it. On the whole, TERMINAL NATION exist at the confluence of old school Death Metal and Hardcore, they live and breathe heaviness through the instruments and vocals. This is a pretty interesting album from start to finish and I have to mention the fantastic cover art which could fit right into any Tolkien’s book.
