Belgium’s one and only masters of Mincecore (i.e. their interpretation of political Grindcore) are back to add their seventh studio album on CD to their impressive discography of over 100 releases. Since their foundation in 1985 and first release in 1988, they have come up with a constant stream of EPs – especially lots of splits with other underground Grindcore bands – LPs and CDs, including both studio and live recordings. That’s every true collector’s nightmare, I guess, and I bet there is hardly any other band in extreme music with that enormous number of releases. On their newest studio album “Mincer”, AGATHOCLES stick to their raw and dirty way of grinding through their songs, as usual. They are by far not as technical or fast or complex as NASUM or the rest of the modern breed of Grindcore bands, but gather barbaric momentum when they mince through the 21 straightforward songs on this album, many of them being reminiscent of the likes of very old NAPALM DEATH or CARCASS. Unfortunately, the sound quality is not very up-to-date and quite blurry, which is definitely a disadvantage with so many potent competitors on the market. But this fact can be lost sight of when you’re a fan of classic Grindcore or belong to the group of people who are interested in a history lesson in Mincecore. Homepage: www.agathocles.com
