AKERCOCKE
Choronzon

Definitely no fast food. Although… AKERCOCKE can be damn fast. After a moody horror intro that reminds me a bit of the good old Hammer Studios, the band jumps right at your throat with a blastbeat my narrow-minded system of drawers is tempted to rather label it as Black Metal. This isn’t really the truth, though, as the band is to be located in the Death Metal scene. What I appreciate a lot is the band doesn’t stick to my old drawers but commits adultery comparable with OPETH or NOVEMBRE without sounding like those bands at all. There is just this tendency to integrate calm melodies of beauty. Definitely more aggressive than the aforementioned bands. Sometimes amazingly straight, sometimes twisted and crazy (no CEPHALIC CARNAGE effect here, though). I didn’t count how many times I’ve listened to “Choronzon” and still there seems to be something new every time I press repeat. Hey – why not buy this record instead of a dozen boring BRODEQUIN clones? By the way, the only thing that tends to make me get bored are those ultra guttural vocals coming too close to the frognoize department. Even with the help of those high pitched Black Metal screams or the beautiful clean vocals they’re sometimes making me lose patience a little too early. I’ve definitely had enough of THAT. “Choronzon” is miles away from easy (Death Metal) listening and if you resent melodies in general, this might not be stuff for you but in case you’re interested in modern technical Satanic Death Metal, check out this sick piece of blasphemy.
