ATTRACTHA
Darkness

Despise the fact that guitarist and mastermind Ricardo Oliveira had to wait a couple years for the right members, he was finally able to put together a stable line-up with Marcos de Canha (vocals), Guilherme Momesso (bass) and Humberto Zambrin (drums). And the "Darkness" EP is their first proper release. 4 tracks well rooted in a style that is atypical (at least for me) in Brazil, Traditional Heavy Metal, with a lot of Hard Rock influences. And they do a nice job, music-wise. The guitar riffs are solid, melodic and catchy, with some really memorable leads and a strong rhythm bass guitar and a groovy drum work. All the elements are here and they get along nicely. Some of the songs even have the "bluesy" feeling similar to 90s DOKKEN or a heavier version of GREAT WHITE. The production is punchy, with a clean mix that highlights every instrument. But the fact that grabbed my attention the most was the mastering. These 4 tracks rely a lot on dynamics and feeling, which is great! That’s how the music breathes and flows perfectly. My only complaint here? The vocals. Traditionally (or better off, in my humble opinion), the genre needs some soaring, almost "epic" vocals, with a lot of AOR influence. I think that Mr. de Canha has a good approach, but sometimes he sounds sterile and there are certain parts that desperately cry for a little more grit or bite in the vocal department. Yes, I think these little details makes a good song sound great! Anyway, I think ATTRACTHA is a really good band that needs to develop, since they were just formed in 2012. They already have some good material and with a little more work, I do think they will become even better. A band to look out for in the near future for sure!
