CALM HATCHERY
Sacrilege Of Humanity
(Selfmadegod Records)

The rating “Polish Death Metal” is almost a quality certificate as many Polish Death Metal bands have the following things in common: topnotch soundquality, the musicians offer a high technical ability on their instruments and the songwriting is very good. It’s easy to find similarities to the likes of BEHEMOTH, VADER and other well-known names of the Polish Death Metal scene in the music of CALM HATCHERY, but this won’t do them a favor as they have more to offer. I think it’s not fair to put them in the “Polish Death Metal” label, as I hear a lot of influences from American Death Metal bands, whereas especially IMMOLATION come to my mind. All this sounds rather negative, which is again very unfair, simply because CALM HATCHERY recorded a great piece of Death Metal with “Sacrilege Of Humanity”. What those guys offer is Death Metal in the best possible way, quality-wise of highest standards and with the “standard” (see above) attributes of a Polish Death Metal album. However, all that is nothing if the songs are crap. Even this tiny little importance is considered here on this recording as the songs featured are very good, starting with the cool ‘Messerschmidt’ as no. 3 in the song order which offers a cool chorusline – nothing usual for a Death Metal album, if you ask me. I’m very surprised by this band and this recording and wondered why those musicians didn’t offer something like this before. The musicians are all old hands and active in several other bands since years. Selfmadegod Records again convince with a very good band selection and therefore I can only recommend this release to every dedicated and quality oriented Death Metal fan out there.
