"To The Gory End" – this will always be a quality album and an extensive introduction seems superfluous. But in case you landed on this website through a datingsite, never heard of the band and are charmed by the cover art here follows a short intro. This is a re-release of this British trio’s debut album, originally released in 1990 on Vinyl Solutions. The first of three very enjoyable records before they wasted a major deal with their superfluous fourth album "Black Faith". Considering the time it was released it’s not a suprise the music seems like a subtract of the style that DEATH unleashed upon mankind. Add elements of (extreme) Thrash with a raw and dry production and you have a formula that’s unlikely to go wrong. The quality of the songs is good but not excellent. Still there’s a few classics to be found here like ‘Body Count’ and ‘Blood Bath’. Many midspeed tunes with enough variation and quality riffs and dito drumming to keep it exciting. But probably the most distinctive element of this record are the vocals of guitarist John Walker. The raspy edge in his almost growling type of screaming give it just that extra bit of brutality. Excellent! The atmosphere that makes old school Death Metal so irresistable decorates this album and makes it a record that will always remind of the holy early 90s. On "To The Gory End” these are two tracks from the 1989 demo, namely ‘Our Fate’ and ‘Revenged’. The sound here is very thrashy, but raw and clear enough to justify a second live on silver… but why only two tracks instead of the complete demo? CANCER has recently been resurrected to support the releases on Cyclone Empire Records. In case the band is thinking about writing new material, let’s hope it sounds like their old.
