CARNAL LUST
Rebirth In Hate

Ever since the release of their debut full length "Whore Of Violence", the CARNAL LUST line-up has changed quite a bit. Original singer Nickro got replaced by new frontman L. Chuck D. and they’ve furthermore added a new bassplayer and additional guitar player to their ranks. Don’t know if all this helped to increase their overall quality in any way as I’ve never felt the urge to listen to their previous releases, but at least the four tracks on this new MCD show some obvious musical potential. The main problem with CARNAL LUST is, that they tend to destroy a basically cool song with superfluous additional ideas, probably in order to sound more original or whatever. They could be a really convincing, very brutal US-style Death Metal act, with lots of intensity and guttural vocals (best example for this is track number three, ‘Soulless Man’), but then there’s these annoying changes in the vocal department (partly towards a more ordinary growling, partly even with a bit of a Hardcore feel to it) which really destroy the apocalyptic feel and heaviness. Same goes for the guitar melodies that they throw in here and there (luckily not thaaat often)… I don’t really get the intention of them. Of course they are played very well, but hey, there’s other possibilities to let people be aware of your skills, isn’t it? So, the heavier this French five piece comes across, the more impressive they are! My personal advice is: get rid of your ambitions to become a unique force in the Death Metal underground (which is almost impossible these days anyway) and focus on your real strength instead. Otherwise you will probably go nowhere. More info at: www.carnallust.net, www.diamond-prod.com
