I have never really liked the use of a drum machine on Death Metal releases and that is one of the first things that strikes me when I listen to this release. It’s not only the fact that it is not a real drummer, it is simply the sound that pretty fast becomes rather annoying in my eyes (ears..). I guess that this release will get a lot of attention since it’s Astennu (Dimmu Borgir etc..) who is the only member of Carpe Tenebrum. I don’t know what style the last two Carpe Tenebrum albums was (DIMMU style… – Frank), but I must say that I don’t find this one very interesting. I’m afraid that it’s one of these releases that very fast will find its place among the rest of the CD’s that hardly ever make their way to the CD player. It is not that this is badly performed or something it’s just that it has been heard so many times before and a lot better as well. There is simply not enough energy and aggression in this and it tends to become rather boring already after a few tracks. One thing I have to ad though, is that the cover looks rather cool…
