CARTILAGE are a San Francisco, California based Death Metal / Grindcore band that has been active since 2014, with two-full lengths under their belts. There newest offering is a short EP entitled “Tales From The Entrails: A Necrology”, clocking in at barely over ten minutes but packing some serious firepower in its brief ugly spasm of a life. The intro is a pulp Horror movie-style promo feature that sets the tone for the remaining ten minutes of actual music, invoking major IMPALED and EXHUMED vibes in the process. ‘Frothed Vomit Slosh’ is an ugly walk through current-era CARCASS territory early on, before picking up in tempo and exploding into full-on double-kick drum mayhem and grinding riffs. The Grindcore aspect of CARTILAGE really shines here, it’s technically tight and fast, a signature sign of a band that’s really locked their material in. ‘Globs Of Glimmering Gore’ is an up-tempo striker that features some seriously gorgeous soloing buried in the center of the track. Grinding tremolo riffs and double-tracked vocals accompany slamming downbeats. ‘Ape-U-Tator’ once it moves past its opening sample, is circle pit-worthy Grindcore that features some intense blast beats and huge, fuzzed-out standalone bass lines. ‘Pulled Inside Out’ combines the band’s signature fury with some quick guitar flourishes and harmonics to add detail to the central riff. And just like that, the EP is over. At under twelve minutes in length, this is a compact listen for fans of IMPALED, CARCASS, EXHUMED and GHOUL. Powerful grinding chaos mixed with brief shockwaves of melodicism and guitar flair.
