This is the second album of this Slovakian band. What we have here is a punkish Speed / Thrash Metal assault sung in their native tongue, thus giving it a weird and exotic feeling. The vocals are something between melodic screams and metallic Hardcore shouts. Although I cannot understand a single thing what they say, it is easy to hear that they are into the party Thrash thing the way MUNICIPAL WASTE, GAMA BOMB or some NUCLEAR ASSAULT sound like. Not that it is a bad thing per-se, but at times it sounds the same. The thing that makes this band sound different are without doubt the vocals, and the language they are sung in. It gives it a rougher edge, and also if the tales are about getting drunk and pointing the world problems, it sounds a lot more bohemian to speak it in a way, than what some other similar bands do. In fact there are quite a few of more serious riffs found here and there, so it is not that happy sounding all the time. Having fun playing is in no way bad, in fact some of my fave bands have some of that fun ingredient to make music more enjoyable. CATASTROFY is not only able to make things fun, but the musicianship is very good also. And while there is no novelty here, it is done with such conviction and so well executed, that it puts many bands of a similar Thrash style to shame. I can sense a tiny bit of Folk influence in their music, I mean the Folk of their land, so in this aspect the band adds something that similar bands lack. Maybe the vocals at times tend to be a bit boring, but the music itself is quite good and I am sure that followers of fun inspired Thrash / Speed with a different touch will surely like it. www.facebook.com/catastrofy, www.supug.cz
