CHURCH OF DISGUST
Veneration Of Filth

This is CHURCH OF DISGUST’s second album, adorned with a remarkable black and white drawing of a couple of monsters tearing a nice girl apart in the middle of the forest. These Deathsters from Texas are clearly fanatics of old school Death Metal. It’s fairly easy to describe their music and give you an idea of what to expect… they play a very mid-tempo to slow Death Metal, a bit in the style of AUTOPSY, and often going into the realms of Doom Death… very dragged and ruthless. However, the Swedish influence is also very obvious, with riffs and solos that could have been recorded at the Sunlight Studio in the early nineties. Some leads sound exactly like old recordings of ENTOMBED or CARNAGE. There are other influences, but very consistent with this… Sometimes they sound a bit like MORTICIAN or ASPHYX and there is a riff and a harmony in ‘Corpses Of Dead Worlds’ that take me back to the earlier CARCASS albums. They have a gloomy piano intro to the album, they have occasional movie intros to songs, they have a few Lovecraft lyrics (like ‘Sunken Altar Of Dagon’)… all good and traditional ideas. But above all, they have some kick ass Death Metal songs, and that’s their greatest merit. Being a bit on the slow side, the songs aren’t exactly short, a few of them lasting over 5 minutes. However, I never felt any boredom. They sound massive, brutal, relentless, and they manage to keep you interested. I was listening to the first few songs and realizing how good it all sounds… great riffs, solid songwriting and that permanent Deathly ambiance. The same reasons I keep going back to those old and amazing albums of bands like INCUBUS and MASSACRE. So you see, by now you certainly have an idea on whether you may enjoy this. If you are into old school Death Metal, give them a listen and you may be pleasantly surprised. Go to: www.facebook.com/churchofdisgust, www.memento-mori.es
