CONTEMPT from Slovakia, formed as DESECRATOR in 1990, released two albums already on Empire Records, and probably caused some brain / ear damage by some of you already in their 20 years of existence. As I was told, the situation about Empire Records is unclear at the moment and "Blasphemy" was forced to be released by the band itself. With a title like "Blasphemy" you know what to expect and the actual power unleashed might even top your imagination. American brutality in a blasphemic form that marked the Polish and Brazilian wave from a couple of years ago. Where "The Secret Around Us" still had some grindy groove; on "Blasphemy" everything is aimed for one purpose and that’s blasting brutality! This is brutal Death Metal and nothing less. An occasional old school start is blistered to pieces by new drummer Dodi (former ERYTROSY, FEAST OF ROTTEN CORPSES a.o). Very competent musicianship with the right dose of technique. No much variation is to be found here, just unrelenting, congesting brutality. Some industrial intros set a diabolical scenery which soon break into hammering madness. If your playlist ranges from SUFFOCATION, DERANGED, CANNIBAL CORPSE, LOST SOUL, DYING FETUS to HATE ETERNAL and the likes, you should give this album a try! The band is definitely not sitting still with a few releases coming up of which one is a 20 song compilation album (double CD). Covering 2 decades, ranging from a short NAPALM DEATH-like song from 1990 over technical old school stuff from ’93, ’95 and ’97 to the two former studio albums.
