CONTEMPT
The Secret Around Us

This band hails from Slovakia and play a brutal form of Death Metal, how surprising! More seriously, this first full length (after numerous demos, some of them having been issued under the moniker of DESECRATOR back in the 90s) will certainly give a chill to the most demanding of the extreme Death Metal fanatics. In fact, if you do remember the minor classic that CRYPTOPSY "Blasphemy Made Flesh" actually is, be sure you will found here an exact equivalent in term of intensity and musical writing. The four CONTEMPT musicians know how to play, as their performance appears faultless on this record. All the songs are of the same extremely high quality and well complimented by a fat production, as dense and heavy as a wrecking ball. The overall result crushes badly, and I am actually amazed by the level of professionalism displayed by CONTEMPT and also by the fresh ideas and unexpected tricks and licks they are able to inject into a too well-known musical frame. Their label describes CONTEMPT as a Death Grind outfit, but I partially agree as the Grind elements are kept on low profile here in favor of a classic brutal Death approach (for the better I think), with the fortunate result that the music never sounds blurred and disjointed throughout the album. My minor complaint comes from the lyrical side, as the lyrics don’t match the brilliance of the music, this is an aspect to be bettered next time. Apart from that, I see CONTEMPT as more than a hope in the Death Metal scene, and I am pretty sure they will become huge if they stand firm on their turf. Needless to say, this album is strongly recommended! Contact: www.empire-records.com.pl
