Within the realm of Black Metal, there exist several bands that, in addition to their musical virtues, the quality of their compositions, and the sound excellence of their recordings, possess the ability to convey the essence of Black Metal. CULTUM INTERITUM is one of those bands that radiates darkness and gloomy atmospheres in each of their notes. Their third album, following the trajectory of their two preceding albums, “Poison Of Being” and “Veneration Of The New Dawn,” stays true to their distinctive sound. Despite mentions in some interviews about a desire to distance themselves a bit from the Death Metal ambiance that permeates their songs, I don’t mind it at all. In fact, I appreciate it, as it adds substance to the songs. This new album is once again released by Godz Ov War Productions, who are doing a commendable job of exploring the underground and offering albums by lesser-known bands, all while maintaining quality and extreme essence. Comprising six tracks in just 26 minutes, each titled with a single letter, they collectively spell out the word S.A.C.R.U.M. I won’t delve into an exhaustive compilation of adjectives expressing darkness and gloominess, as many reviews do. Instead, I’ll simply state that their sound is dark, dense, cloying, chaotic and gloomy – pure Black Metal that deviates from the Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish styles, drawing closer to bands like PROFANATICA and DEMONCY, even more twisted, dark and dense. This music may not be tailored for novice ears within the genre, but if given the right time, day and repeated listens, you will find immense enjoyment in these occult pieces, as each piece is a kind of act or ritual. www.facebook.com/cultuminteritum, www.facebook.com/godzovwar
