DAMNGOD
Humanity - The Legacy Of Violence And Evil

Ah, another somewhat pleasing surprise from the land of thousand dorks… ahem, I mean, lakes. DAMNGOD have been around about for 4 years, and released a few releases already during their existence. "The Legacy Of Violence And Evil", this 8-track effort from these Finns, obviously love the Swedish pioneers of Swedish Death Metal, ENTOMBED – and especially the band’s post – "Clandestine", more groovy and rocking sounding era. And because of that, I love how DAMNGOD sound on their 2nd studio album. The band has got kind of rockin’ and addictive yet still brutal vibe shot through the songs on this record, which is always something in my books that makes me grin wider for an ear orgasm well received. DAMNGOD shoot hard and straight, targeting a painful kick toward our private areas, with a nice Punk-ish feel and attitude. They sound like there’s nothing fake in them, rousting listeners against the corner for a couple of extra moments – like a damage that just happened in your pants wasn’t enough. But seriously, this is some good shit that oddly tends to remind me of the defunct VOMITURITION’s only album ("A Leftover") from 1995. "Humanity…" has more than just a thing or two in common with "A Leftover"; the guitar duo Marko-Mika has managed to create a crushing backbone for the whole record by their hammering, downright heavy guitar rolls – and there’s actually not much to be complained about the efforts of the rest band members on "Humanity…". Only vocalist Antti doesn’t manage to convince me fully with all his vocal parts as at times he sounds like he could be seriously choking – like someone would have put hands around his neck, trying to squeeze the last breath out of him. This of course, is just a matter of taste. However, nothing changes the fact DAMNGOD have recorded a very good album, which they can certainly be proud of. "Humanity…" is groovy Death Metal done right. Pure and simple. www.damngod.net
