In the Metal world, there are the originals and the many that follow. We can all name what bands they pay homage to and base their approach on (sometimes too much so), primarily those originators. One of those big names is BOLT THROWER, and all those bands that continue that particular sound, WAR MASTER, FROZEN SOUL, HAIL OF BULLETS, to name a few. Now with this review, we can also add DEATH KOMMANDER to the list. Not much to say because we all know what we’re going to hear with this release. Pure and unadulterated BOLT THROWER worship. I will say this though, that the production and overall songwriting is about the closest I’ve heard to a more old school sound in this type of genre. You would be forgiven into thinking this is actually BOLT THROWER via the “War Master” era. The only difference mainly is that the vocalist has a less gruff, less imposing bellow than the indomitable Karl Willets. I do and did enjoy this, and I want to love this more, but maybe I’m too old school, and I know where and what I’ve heard in the past. Maybe that’s the keyword here… the past. The band does a well enough job of giving me that thought and that smile for “the past”, but I know what I know also, so it affects me beyond just listening to another release from another similar style band. Please don’t let an old man’s grumblings affect you too much. There is still much enjoyment to be heard, and also to appreciate all that is Metal.
