DEATHBED
Obsolete Natural Composition

Chile and South America in general has always been a place full of underground Death Metal gems. Recently this part of the world has been in the spotlight thanks to SUPPRESSION’s beautiful album “The Sorrow Of Soul Through Flesh”, or again THORNAFIRE with their last work “Leprosario Lazareto”. Now the time has come for DEATHBED, a band of 30 year old musicians, who are now on their second album after nine years. Since then, guitarist (now Rodrigo Dimiter) and drummer (now Luis Silva) have changed in the band. In almost nine years DEATHBED’s style has matured and improved, in particular it has become more aggressive and 100% Death Metal, abandoning Thrash and melodic influences. So, “Obsolete Natural Composition” came during a massive revival of old school Death Metal, that makes for every band more difficult to be noticed. To be noticed depends on a lot of stuff: the esthetics, the sound, the album cover and so often the label where you came out. Iron, Blood And Death Corporation is not one of those labels like Profound Lore 20 Buck Spin, Everlasting Spew or others, but let’s talk about the album. The opener, ‘Control’, is a modern Death Metal blast, with a heavy BENIGHTED feeling, and that’s a great start. The singer, Enzarro Dañobeitía, does not limit himself to English, but often adds a few verses of his mother language, Spanish, in the lyrics. A characteristic of Latin languages is to be particularly angular, to be suitable for shouting and expressing feelings of anger and hatred. This is why BRUJERIA sounds so violent! This element gives DEATHBED an extra charge, and if you add some reverb, you will kill everyone! Maybe the best song is definitely ‘Blinded By Perception’, with a strong MORBID ANGEL influence from the “Domination” era in the songwriting. This song has a real evil feeling in the solos and in the groove in general, makes this song in the middle of the album the malignant one. Maybe the only wrong thing about this album is that it is not “on point”. I mean, there are so many influences and this makes this album invisible to the eyes of a lot of people who like this genre. Maybe DEATHBED should choose only one way, one influence, one kind of songwriting and bet on that. So, DEATHBED don’t make anything new and maybe they don’t want to do that, and even if this album is not on the “right label” for this reissue of Death Metal, but this album is good and you should hear it.
