So, I don’t know about you all in the Metal world, I have moods and moments in my listening time. I just don’t play the same thing. There is a time and place for different aspects of Metal depending on where I am, how I feel and what fits my disposition at that particular moment. So yeah, now I am staring at the cover artwork for this release with its ghastly Cthulhu like creature seemingly molded or coming from an armored tank like vehicle, the title “Glorious Tyrannizing Of Human Rats” and with a band name like DECAPITATED CHRIST, I can just think of so many places where I can just blast this and give a big F U to some people or situations ( I live in the US, so I have plenty of reasons, haha). So, when taking on reviews in general and as I usually do with bands I am unfamiliar with, I do a bit of research on past material, listen to some older releases to see how they have progressed (or not) and I can say with this latest bit of deathly evil they are a bit more refined in approach and much more intense and I feel the production values and songwriting approach help in that regard. On a side note, I did notice I have “The Vanishment And Extermination Of Dietes” from 2010 deep within my vaults. Granted the band is from Spain there is very much American Death Metal in their sound (sorry guys, no offense intended), there is plenty of the Florida sound coming across to me. Touches of early DIABOLIC, early MONSTROSITY and UNHOLY GHOST are readily apparent. Just listen to track #5 ‘Luciferi Ardentis Monarcha’, such amazing riffing happening on this song also track #6 ‘Orients Princeps Belzebub’ and you will get a sense of where I’m coming from. ‘Assualt On The Ravaged Wasteland’ and track #4 give off the BOLT THROWER vibes (yeah, yeah I know they are not US based). Track #8 has a slight epic quality with some dramatic keyboard accentuations and also a more dramatic song structure. Having said that, you will hear scattered through the tracks brief nuances of keyboards that accentuate the darkness that the band puts forth, it is not a dominant aspect it just adds a bit “extra” to their overall sound. Don’t wince too much at the mention of keyboards though because the guitars truly carry the songs at times, the riffing is spot on and I was given too many moments of air guitar and headbanging. They are by no way a DIMMU BORGIR clone. So seeing that these guys have been kicking around since 2005 it is good to have them upgrading their assault with some quality musicianship and also just keeping the faith. With that, I give props to the guys. www.facebook.com/decapitatedchrist, www.facebook.com/fdarec
