DECEIVER
Thrashing Heavy Metal
(Pulverised Records)

Singapore based Pulverised Records are currently publishing one album after another but the quality level of these releases is honestly speaking more than unpredictable. The latest TRIBULATION, HELLVETO or GUILLOTINE releases have the potential to be called masterpieces in a few years but next to these albums there are also weaker releases from bands like NETHERBIRD or SÉANCE (I disagree on the latter… – Frank). The Swedish DECEIVER are without a doubt capable musicians – which is no surprise keeping in mind that Pete Flesh (MAZE OF TORMENT) is handling the guitars and vocals – but their farewell album “Thrashing Heavy Metal” is nevertheless falling into the category of the weaker Pulverised releases. The album is offering a handful of good songs – especially when DECEIVER reduces the Thrash Metal influences (‘Graveyard Lover’, ‘Coma Of Death Toxication’) to emphasise their Heavy Metal roots – but the majority of the songs of their third (and last) album are somehow ‘dusty’ German Thrash Metal with some further influences from the Danish Metal king and his followers (MERCYFUL FATE). Think that all Thrash traditionalists will find an old friend in “Thrashing Heavy Metal” – all others will search for a more updated and innovative version (for example LEGION OF THE DAMNED). www.pulverised.net, www.myspace.com/deceiverswe
