DECIMATION
Anthems Of An Empyreal Dominion

When listening to these songs from this 2nd full-length from DECIMATION I have a slight problem calling them "Anthems" as called in the CD-title. Actually I do have the same problem with the songs on EMPEROR’s "Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk", nevertheless it’s one of the most amazing Black Metal albums. "Anthems Of An Empyreal Dominion" is not one of the most amazing Death Metal albums, but above the ordinary one. Really good with high quality Death Metal performed. Cihan from BURIAL INVOCATION already mentioned DECIMATION in the interview he answered me some months ago (which you can read in the interview section) as one of the most recommendable acts from Turkey. DECIMATION is the 2nd Turkish Death Metal band I know together with BURIAL INVOCATION. Both are completely different though, as DECIMATION focus on the high technical Death Metal more in the vein of NILE and their likes. The album starts with the intro ‘Exercising The Ancient Reign’ with a length of 3:33 minutes and to be honest, this is too long for an intro. Nevertheless the impression you get while listening to this intro is clear: DECIMATION deal with the ancient Sumerian mythology. Well, reading the lyrics I could figure that out, but I might be wrong in this guess as this is not my métier. After the intro you get with ‘Sardonic Equilibrium Decree Humiliating Imkhulu’ not only another long songtitle (something like the running gag for the whole album as except for the 4th song ‘Nocturnal Chaos’ each titles are rather long) but a brutal piece of technical Death Metal with experts performing it. Really, technically spoken what the guys behind DECIMATION are doing is utterly amazing and can compete with the leaders in this genre. The production is just perfect for this type of music, recorded, mixed and engineered in Turkey, mastered by Colin Davis at Imperial Mastering in the USA (VILE, DECREPIT BIRTH, BLASPHEMER). You see, we are not talking about a cheap garage recording here, as the band put really a lot effort in this album. Well, you get 38 minutes of brutal technical Death Metal, with hints of NILE or HATE ETERNAL and fans of those bands are exactly the group of persons to check out this cool release. Highly appreciated for those and a worthwhile investment. Get it from www.comatosemusic.com and check out the band’s page at www.myspace.com/decimationtur.
