I’ve been intrigued by DIA DE LOS MUERTOS after seeing their video ‘Cantina Del Infierno’ starring David Vincent as a bartender in a seedy Mexican style bar. But honestly, for the purpose of this review, I’ve been listening to "Satanico Dramatico", their debut album released in 2011 and available as a free download, more than I would usually care. They have a bunch of guest vocalists / guitar players appearing here and I’m quite perplexed as to who actually is making up this band, because it seems that every release is recorded by different people and the only constatnt here is a producer Roy Z, who’s mixed all their efforts. So speaking about the music, "Satanico Dramatico" features 10 quite short tracks and the blueprint is energetic Metalcore mixed with some groovy Thrash Metal. They usually start fast, go into breakdown and repeat. Not really my cup of blood, but the sound is heavy and songs fly by at energetic pace. Still it doesn’t really manage to hook me up to the point that I would like to play it again and again. The songs that stand out are BRUJERIA influenced, short and brutal ‘Sigo Siendo El Rey’ and ‘Fresh Meat To The Grinder’ featuring Jeff Walker & Scott Carlson, which sounds like a simplified CARCASS track from the "Swansong" era, but with beefed up sound. At the end of the day, "Satanico Dramatico" might be a good album for someone who’s just starting to get into heavier music, like 11-12 old kids, who don’t know shit about what’s good, but like simple pounding rhythms and basic catchy Metalcore-ish riffs. The songs sung in Spanish sound way more brutal for me, they should keep it that way throughout the whole album, other than that these are the only positive things I can say about DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, who at best are just a little above average band with no real identity of their own. This might not sound worth your time, but just for the sake of testing my review, you can head to their website and download this and other releases for free, so why not? I definitely heard worse shit and you might even enjoy those aforementioned tracks, so give them a chance, maybe my ears are just too tired for this and you’ll prove me wrong. www.ddlm.net, www.facebook.com/ddlmband
