DRAGGING THE CASKET
From Hell

It’s been 3 years since ex – ARISE guitarist L-G Hakamo released his debut album ("The Undead") under his new project band called DRAGGING THE CASKET. Now L-G Hakamo has got his 2nd album out of the pipe, titled "From Hell". Just like it was the case with DRAGGING THE CASKET’s debut album, L-G Hakamo handles bass, guitars and drum programming all by himself. Mikko Häkälä was hired to do the vocals for this recording. "From Hell" is a DIY – kind of effort, in which L-G Hakamo has recorded everything at his home in Helsinki, Finland. The music follows the same formula that he had found on his debut already, i.e. Thrash Metal into the vein of TESTAMENT and KREATOR is the name of the game here again, with Mikko’s semi Death Metal grunts that in fact, are unfortunately a bit monotonous in my opinion (being a picky and cynical bastard that I have become over the years). Fortunately L-G’s songwriting skills are on an admirable level, L-G being able to push some certain boundaries as far as the songs’ true potentiality to stand out is concerned. All the riffing on "From Hell" is throughout great, and some of his leads are spot-on. It’s actually quite easy to tell that it’s the Bay Area Thrash sound that L-G seems to love most, although L-G has undoubtedly some love for SLAYER too (simply tune your ears for ‘This Mortal Sin’). Even the programmed drums don’t sound so much like they could have been programmed, so in that department L-G has succeeded at pretty darn convincingly as well. With a better ‘Thrash vocalist’ in the DRAGGING THE CASKET ranks, I would probably enjoy this opus much more, I believe. But then again, that’s just me. Got interested?
