What a strange band name herein… It’s been said that ‘Dylath-Leen is a fictional city in H. P. Lovecraft’s Dream Cycle and appears in "The Dream-Quest Of Unknown Kadath" (1926)’. Alright, do we need to know more about them? Well, this French quartet named DYLATH-LEEN was formed in 1999, and they also have two other releases out already; their debut album "Insecure" was released in 2002 – and follow-up album to that, "Semeïon", in 2008. The band’s new 11-track opus, "Cabale", is out too – and what I would call their music to be all about, I’d call their stuff progressive, soulful and atmospheric Death Metal basically – even deeply emotional at times. At least that’s the nearest – and most descriptive tag I can come up with towards their stuff on their 3rd album, "Cabale". In fact, this is not one of those albums that shows its full colors to listeners right during the first spinning of it. Count on me when I tell you not even after two – or three full rounds with it, makes it to show all its different shapes and shades to you. It takes a few more concentrated rounds to really see deep down into the content of this well constructed record – and just to make the best out of it, you know. What creates an extra dose of contrast to the songs actually, is the fact that the vocal parts are shared by Kathy’s screeching, really blistering – as well as Igor’s guttural Death Metal vocalisms, that both add something more intriguing into the already powerful context of the songs on the record. Having said that, I still wouldn’t say that DYLATH-LEEN are one of the most original or unique acts out there nowadays but at least they do have this tendency to suggest people to push the repeat button whenever this disc finds its way into people’s personal jukeboxes. I pretty much happen to like their performance on "Cabale", and this lil’, ugly devil on my left shoulder is already twisting my ear hard and powerfully that I should also try to make myself familiar with the band’s two previous outings. Hmm… what was the address of their website again? More info at: www.dylath-leen.net, www.greatdanerecs.com
