ETERNAL ROT
Moribound
(Memento Mori)
34:49min

The international Death / Doom band ETERNAL ROT stands out due to the blending of various stylistic elements of different subgenres in the Death Metal field. The vocals are clearly in the Grind / Goregrind genre and remind a little of the debut of CARCASS. The song intros evoke associations with Horror Metallers like NECROPHAGIA and the dark melodies could also be classified with more atmospheric genre representatives. The partly intentional monotony then makes names like PITCH SHIFTER and GODFLESH come to mind and the basic framework is old school Death Doom of the earlier English school. An interesting brew, which works but just through this combination of different elements and reveals a certain independence. However, ETERNAL RED have the problem that they lack the good and varied song ideas, which would be urgently needed to keep the listener in the long term. The six tracks, most of them over six minutes long, seem too uniform during the 34 minutes of playing time. The constantly repetitive song structure begins to let the interest of the listener slacken. Even occasionally interspersed cool BLACK SABBATH vibes are of little use. ETERNAL ROT can play, do their thing not bad, but are unfortunately only average songwriters, because “Moribound” seems like a single half-hour song. Thus, one is stuck in the misery of liking the work, but feeling little motivation to put it on again after listening to it. This is a pity, because ETERNAL ROT have enormous potential, which they can not (yet?) play out. Nevertheless, you should keep an eye on them, because with a little more songwriting experience, the band could still become something in the future. A solid work with far too little variety to inspire, but still too good to find it lousy. www.facebook.com/eternalrot, www.facebook.com/memento.mori.label
