The CD “MMIV Lacrimas Mundi” by the Finnish duo EVEMASTER didn’t exactly catch me with its first sounds. Not too impressive melodic Black Metal blast part right at the beginning. The drums suck in particular. Then their style changes towards melodic Death Metal although you always stumble over typical Black Metal riffs. There’s even a hint of grimness. The vocals suport this impression as well. So it’s getting a lot better. I have to admit I’m getting more and more bored by melodic Death bands because most of them sound just like all the others. It’s not quite that bad with EVEMASTER because they write their own (good) melodies and the arrangements are actually quite a bit above the average. Pretty orchestral, big sounds at times. Some parts are even kind of aggressive as long as the drummer doesn’t try to play the blast. Combined with a hint of Finnish melancholy and the aforementioned occasional “grimness” this makes a cool Metal album which fans of the melodic genre will be pretty fond of. www.evemaster.net.
