After all, this is pretty much the same kind of Death Metal you’ve heard just so many times before. Is it bad? Well, actually it is not if we take a closer look at the technical aspect to this “Nihilistic Contentment” release. EXMORTEM manages to make their music float, and the changes in tempo and riffing are not out of place. The guitars are tuned in on heavy, that’s for sure, while Reno (which I wouldn’t exactly say is an ex – DIMMU BORGIR drummer just because he did a few shows with them) blasts away like the Devil’s on his shoulders. But, when ‘The Human Rape Symphony’ (nice title) sounds more or less just the same as ‘Flesh Havoc’ I’m turning my head somewhere else. Of course EXMORTEM knows how to at least try, since they slow down in between, such as in the beginning of ‘Black Walls Of Misery’. Too bad it sounds like a track from “Blessed Are The Sick”, with influences from “Dawn Of Possession”. Which bands? Well, if you don’t know these two mentioned albums, you better return to your Britney Spears albums. So, EXMORTEM delivers an ok Death Metal album, with too many similar songs to be remembered as a classic. It’s ok to listen to them in the moment, but I rather easily long for a different album with songs I feel like listen to again and again.
