FALL OV SERAFIM

In the most unlikely case that anybody is wondering what happened to MISTELSTEIN: these are their heirs. Their self-proclaimed aim is to create the best Metal music possible, but as honourable as this may be, "Nex Jehovae" is still pretty fucking far away from living up to this high staked claim. It’s very much of a mixed bag of typically Swedish Black Metal and a more symphonic approach. Not so long ago there was a lot of complaining about all the keyboard wimps that were said to destroy the scene, but as it turned out, the flood of incompetent DARKTHRONE – clones with little more to offer than a shitty ‘Kinderzimmer’ – production and some offensive layout has done much more harm to the integrity and creativity of Black Metal. Unfortunately, FALL OV SERAFIMS’s use of synthetic devices is light years away from the standard which masters of the genre such as HIDDEN IN THE FOG have established and reminds one why the use of keyboards in Metal became so unpopular in the first place since it’s just too cheesy and not really integrated into the songwriting. They have much stronger moments when they stay with the classic Metal instrumentation, like in ‘A Poisoned Blessing’ where they sound like a lesser LEGION. All in all, another fine example of mediocrity from a scene that is just as alive and kicking as Jon Nödtveidts body… www.regainrecords.com.
