Gegrepen Door De Geest Der Zielsontluiking

Just one year after “Bloem”, FLUISTERAARS return with their fourth full-length “Gegrepen Door De Geest Der Zielsontluiking”. A bit less accessible than the last album, “Het Overvleugelen Der Meute” shows ist beauty after some more spins. Even though I do not like the word, this one is Post Black Metal at its finest. Very raw and intense with harsh screams, intense drumming and very raw guitar work. The main theme is a desperate melody which is surrounded by sharp guitars. Again their strength lies in the more quiet parts, when they slow down and take you down into their catacombs. ‘Brand Woedt In Mijn Graf’ is another brilliant track as it combines the very raw approach with a beautiful atmosphere. Immediately goose bumps appeared when the track started. And the vocals get varied on this track and made it running on heavy rotation in my car. A good example how beautiful Black Metal can be without being wimpy or boring. Songwriting, instrumentation and feeling, all is right here and very outstanding. The third track ‘Verscheuring In De Schemering’ starts very calm but menacing, before getting intense but very melodic in the same way. I really appreciate that the duo finds a good balance between pure raw Black Metal and beautiful melodies. And what I really appreciate is that music like this stops my thoughts about work and problems and just acts on me. Again another album that takes some time to get into it but definitely is worth to check in a world overdozed by good releases.
