FORNHEM, a 2013 founded duo from Sweden, released their first album called “Ett Fjärran Kall”. A record exhaling one, and only one mood. Cold Scandinavian melancholy. Four songs in three quarters of an hour is a clear sign of where the journey takes us. A very cold and hypnotic experience. The unique Scandinavian style of Black Metal is created through repetitive tremolo riffing mixed with simple lead guitars and the drumming keeps the atmosphere through mid tempo sections. It’s not very often on “Ett Fjärran Kall” that you’ll find blast beats. This is not what this record wants. It wants to be a floating stream with little highlights which you need to go through while drowning in it. The idea is to be as simple as possible and find the right balance of that monotony and add some old Folk music and evil grimness to it. That mixture is so well balanced that “Ett Fjärran Kall” manages to be something different to what FORNHEM refers too. But still displays its full old school dedication.
