FROSTFINSTERNIS
Am Horizont Die Letzen Strahlen

Loosely translated the title of this CD is "The Last Rays at the Horizon" by the German one-man Stahlgranate FROSTFINSTERNIS (or better understood in the king’s English, FROST DARKNESS). Honestly not much is known about this act. No bio-sheet accompanied this disc, nor any real information printed within the black’n’ white booklet that actually did make it in to VOICES along with this CD as to just what this band is all about? Whether or not this is a legitimate act or a side project of known musicians? Or the very least: a debut recording by a ravenous Black Metal fan!? As all we have here in this booklet is a rough photo of a corpse-painted grim looking fellow named Wintertod. My money, as you would agree, is on the latter. Of all 9 titles within this outing as they are all written in German, I have to assume the vocals are as well? I say the word assume because the production of this material is absolute crap! The money spent here, or not spent here, however you want to look at it makes the listening and reviewing of this CD as nothing short of excruciating. To say that this recording and the vocals herein are raw and intentionally done this way, besides being an understatement, is just absurdly ignorant. If I was "Wintertod" I would definitely see about getting my money back from the "engineer" who’s name is carefully (albeit cleverly) left off this release. And for the potential buying audience who are reading this review let me say your money is not safe either! Your hard earned cash is most assuredly better spent somewhere else! What with the overly simplistic and more often than not, pathetic attempts of same-sounding riffs, holocaust drum beats and random night creep inspired vokills. FROSTFINSTERNIS offers a crude stillborn of BURZUM meets ABRUPTUM. The one statement that flashes in my mind after listening to this CD is the quote from Euronymous – made a year before his death, when he was asked about the great surge of new Black Metal bands in his country and all around the world. He said "We don’t need more Black Metal bands, we need more Terrorists!" No truer statement was ever uttered, and in the case of FROSTFINSTERNIS, no truer call to arms was ever heralded! 10 Euro (Germany) / 17 Euro (Europe).
