GEIST is a Black Metal band that rose out of Germany’s EISMALSOTT in February 2005 and now, 3 months later, they already surprise with their debut album "Patina". Surprise? Yes, definitely! This is a piece of high quality indeed. After an opening introduction created by accoustics you get nearly an hour of various Black Metal with deep emotional impact. From colder atmospheres with high played guitars, over "grippy", driving parts towards disharmonic and unusual tunes "Patina" weaves its spells. All of this is done talented and clever, because although you get some inspirations from e.g. TULUS or the first SUN OF THE SLEEPLESS mini album here, it never sounds like a cheap copy. GEIST work those inspirations out in their very own way. GEIST (German word for ghost) manage to build the bridge between groundstanding old school riffing and spiritual orientated Black Metal tunes and lyrics like the forementioned TULUS or ULVER did. A great and emotional album! www.the-geist-reich.de, www.omvina.com
