Sweden’s GOD AMONG INSECTS got together in 2004 and already the same year they went into the studio to record their debut full length “World Wide Death”. Never heard that album, but considering the fact that the band’s line-up consists of a bunch of quite known underground musicians, it doesn’t really surprise me that they ended up being signed for that by Threeman Recordings right away. On vocals we’ve got Emperor Magus Caligula (DARK FUNERAL / HYPOCRISY), on drums Tobben Gustafsson (VOMITORY), on guitar Lord K Philipson (THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX) and on bass Tomas Elofsson (SANCTIFICATION / IN BATTLE). “Zombienomicon” is the follow-up to “World Wide Death” and showcases a band that delivers a really punching form of brutal Death Metal. Even though the album was recorded at Abyss Studio (with Tommy Tägtgren) the sound turned out extremely raw and is definitely not intended for a mainstream audience. Musically you could say that GOD AMONG INSECTS is kinda close to straight ahead SweDeath in the vein of old GRAVE, VOMITORY and the likes, with a touch of US Death Metal the DEICIDE way, while the core of their songs is obviously based on classic Thrash Metal. Always very intense, very brutal, yet very well performed. So, all in all a solid offering. I wouldn’t necessarily say that the world has been waiting on GOD AMONG INSECTS, but it’s nevertheless one of the better bands that evolve out of already established ones.
