Apocalyptic Doom
(Gruesome Records)

From the basements of the Finnish capital Helsinki GOD DISEASE rose again ten years ago after a first failed start in 2010. Since then, they released quite a lot of stuff for (nearly) always changing record companies: four EPs and a full length album in 2019. Now, nearly four years later, it’s the time for a second album, of course for a new record company. “Apocalyptic Doom” was put out by Gruesome Records from Portugal. And it’s a really nice album for those into Doom Metal of any kind. GOD DISEASE might be based in Doom Death Metal, yet they are not limited to this style. Instead of staying true to the book, the Finns also play along the lines of classic Doom and Funeral Doom. Thus “Apocalyptic Doom” creates an atmosphere of utter darkness and harsh gloom, yet there’s some moments of hope shining through with slightly positive guitar harmonies taking the lead for a while. What does this mean for songs like ‘Remembrance’ or ‘Leper By The Grace Of God’? Gloom at its best, with heavy riffing, sometimes a bit more driving, sometimes slowing down, but always dominating. And of course a recommendation for anyone into doomy stuff with delayed speed and harsh vocals.
