I was more or less immediately blown away when I laid ears upon GRAVLUND’s first release "Goat Funeral Night", when I reviewed it for these very pages. The time has now come for the band’s second offering, a pro-tape limited to a hundred copies, so you better act fast, if you as well are caught in the vortex of grim Norwegian Black Metal. Usually bands are getting more polished as things move forward and they progress, though things seems upside down with GRAVLUND, as it sounds like they actually have regressed into a more raw and grim form, than what they gave us of audible nightmares on the first release. We are still heavily rooted in old school Norwegian Black Metal with the obvious threads back to their inspirational sources. Grim and raw, dark and cold, eerie and haunting, the atmosphere the guys are able to invoke, with their simplistic take on Metal are enormous and captivating, a fresh and brutal breath. The bastard child of an over the edge Lemmy, DARKTHRONE and HELLHAMMER on various mind enhancing drugs and a depression on top. I can’t help it, though something about this band is drawing me in, and it keeps me hurling around in darkness and despair, even after the music has stopped, how some bands are able to create such mindfucks, still tricks my mind, though not many are capable of it!
