Over the last couple of months only a few Pagan Metal releases could camouflage the fact that the next commercial burn out has been nearly achieved. As usual all labels are talking the same language and the Pagan & Heiden-Festivals are penetrating Europe on a quarterly basis to earn (with nearly the same line-up) as much money as possible. But even with this fact in mind this release has simply blown me away. GWYDION from Portugal are offering with their second release "Horn Triskelion" an album which is combining is some way all available influences within the Pagan scene but without sounding dull and predictable. Two years have passed since the releases of their more than solid debut (also released via German label Trollzorn) and the band has extended their musical influences so don’t be astonished if during the first listening session a handful of bands are invading your mind starting with the ‘Caribbean’ pirates of ALESTORM up to more traditional bands like our dear FINNTROLL maniacs. But what makes this release so enjoyable are tracks like ‘Ofiussa (A Terra Das Serpentes)’ with supporting female vocals which are giving the song a more than unique note. Unfortunately GWYDION can’t hold this quality level throughout the complete album – with some minor weaker tracks at the end of the release otherwise we would talk about a true masterpiece – but "Horn Triskelion" is a powerful weapon with the potential to camouflage Armageddon for at least further three months.
