HALLUX VALGUS
Death Will Prevail
(Ex Nihilo Music)

A new Chilean mad band has seen the light of day. It has been active since 2013, but only released one demo in 2016 and now this mini album, released by Ex Nihilo Music from Chile as well. The lads are delivering raw thrashy Death Metal, the old school way. Noisy, raw and distorted beyond belief, good old bands like SODOM, KREATOR, DECEASED, NECROPHAGIA, "Deathcrush" era MAYHEM and the likes have put their spell on HALLUX VALGUS, even though this little ripper is much more than a rip off of mentioned bands. We are getting energy and passion, some great riffs, even though they often are drowning a tad in the noisy and quite thin production, a production that fits this output quite well actually. There are some good moments spread across the 7 tracks, some good guitar work, especially some of the leads are quite well crafted and add a lot to the overall dark atmosphere, and there is to be honest, also some good riffing, just give ‘Slaughter Of Lambs’ a good listen, and the sick sick vocals are also doing the atmosphere and rawness good. If you want it raw, old school and South American this is a good place to go, the Chileans are doing the musical heritage good, perhaps not the most original (just take the opening riff from MAYHEM’s ‘Pagan Fears’ HALLUX VALGUS uses as the hooking riff in ‘Crawling Are The Dead’) or hardhitting material ever being released, but very enjoyable!
