From the capital of China, Beijing, comes HELL SAVIOR that plays sort of a mishmash of early US tinged Heavy Metal, NWOBHM reeking Metal, Speed Metal and Thrash Metal, added with some progressive ingredients. HELL SAVIOR released a 8-track EP in 2009 on their own, before signing to a Chinese label Dying Legion. The first fruit out of this deal is this 8-song album, titled "Keep Running For Metal", and honestly it’s a pretty good release from this Chinese group, featuring 4 members in the band line-up. I mean, if we exclude completely HELL SAVIOR’s ability to express themselves through their awfully written lyrics (their English is very poor) – plus the fact the production on this release is nowhere near to be great, then we do have a decent Chinese Metal band in our hands that play their Metal very passionately, having enough talent squeezed into the band to make it sound quite enjoyable and entertaining for most of the time. You may try to put IRON MAIDEN, early HELLOWEEN, SAXON and such legendary names of early British Heavy Metal through the same blender – and then spice it all with some flavors taken from Thrash and Progressive Metal, to have a Metal shake made of the aforementioned ingredients. Chriest, who’s responsible for the vocals on the record, sounds also surprisingly well-trained, reminding me of young Kai Hansen (ex – HELLOWEEN) and Katon W. de Pena (HIRAX), singing partly nasally, which fits well for the style that HELL SAVIOR represents. There’s also some Black Metal type of rasps and whispers in between the songs on the album, apparently sung in a guy named Zhang Tianran (TENGGER CAVALRY fame), but unfortunately they neither quite fit into the music nor bring any extra value to it, to somehow better the wholeness. Both guitarists, Nature and Hao Tian, deserve a special mention for their sense for some rich and overall kick-ass guitar work. They really make the songs fly. As it has become some sort of a norm, many Chinese Metal bands also want to do cover songs out of their favorite artists – and HELL SAVIOR is no exception to this rule either. Sadly though, their version done for ‘Breaking The Law’ goes badly deep down into the woods. Nevertheless, HELL SAVIOR is definitely worth checking out if some well-made Chinese Metal music is something that tickles your own curiosity a bit at least.
