HELLCATS is the first all female Heavy Metal outfit hailing from Slovenia. The squad was formed in Ljubljana in 2003 by the two sisters Sasha and Sonja Zagorc whose musical background goes back to their childhood days. The four piece soon gathered a loyal fanbase due to the fact that the HELLCATS enjoy to be on stage. So it is no big surprise that they participated at big events like the great Slovenian Metalcamp festival or even toured Russia in 2012. Not to forgot to mention the huge amount of other gigs or the small Italy tour to promote and celebrate the release of their debut album. But let’s go back to the past again. Their first release was a five track EP simply called "Hellcats" which saw its light of day in 2011. It included amongst others their singles ‘Heavy Metal’ from 2010 as well as their second one called ‘Vladar Noci’ which the band recorded in their native language and in English (‘The Master Of The Night’). For this production the band teamed up with producers Kavor Kontic and Grant Austion (well known for the work with LAIBACH). Their debut album has been unleashed upon the headbanging massess since October 2013. The disc is available in two formats: in Slovenian and English language. The version which is right now rotating in my player (and which I personally prefer) is the one sung in their mother tongue. "Divja Pot" means "Steelrider" and the four heavy rocking girls can be really proud like "Steel Warriors" of it. This ten tracker really kicks ass!! Right from the start you are captured by their magic and the great style of Heavy Metal HELLCATS performing. Top notch songwriting, powerful & heavy, yet catchy riffing, superb leads, fulminant drumming and a killer voice by Ajda Kovacic to succumb to. There’s absolute no weak song on the entire album, only killers no fillers. If you don’t start to headbang or play air guitar to tracks like ‘Cas Je, Da Gres’, ‘Prerojena’, ‘Vladar Noci’, ‘Heavy Metal’ or the title track then something might be wrong with you. I can only recommend you to visit the band’s website at www.hellcats.eu for more info and to get hold of the album. Support!
