HELLGOAT
Culto Mortuo II

HELLGOAT from Sweden is one of those one man projects that seem to spring up like mushrooms in the last few years. In this case, Skoll is the man in charge for everything, who also runs two more Black Metal projects all by himself and is involved in some bands as well. Somehow this guy seems to have a lot of time and an overshooting creative streak. To return to HELLGOAT: about a dozen EPs, digital singles and split releases in roughly three years grace the discography of this project, alongside a compilation called “Culto Mortuo” that featured three demos from 2016. Now “Culto Mortuo II” picks up the title of this compilation and features stuff from three or four releases. If it was really necessary to release these eleven songs is a good question. The answer should, in my humble opinion, be a massive “not really”! Yes, this is raw Black Metal, with no frills and not much harmonies. Probably trve as fuck, it’s definitely well done. But it seems to me like I heard stuff like that a thousand times before. And even though songs like ‘Glory To The Evil One’, ‘Namnlös Grav’, ‘Rest In Piss’ or ‘Inte Ens Döden Ska Ge Dig Frid’ are quite nice to listen to, I am pretty sure I’ll never listen to them again. If I want to listen to Black Metal in its purest form, there are a lot of better choices. Thus I can recommend HELLGOAT only to Black Metal completionists.
