Formed in 1995 this is their 13th release… wow… almost a record to be released every year. This is not my first encounter with this band. I have somewhere their “966” album, and have also heard some more releases and very few things have changed. This is, to start with, a one man band… project… whatever. The music style is that to be called Pagan Black Metal. There is also a lot of use of keyboards, orchestral parts, all of this encompassed in a mostly mid-tempo atmosphere and whispery like Black Metal vocals, although not that shrieky, and specially here they remind me a lot to the vocal style of early ROTTING CHRIST. Some few fast parts are used here and there to give variety in the songs, and there is also a lot of more dramatic, movie-like background music used. At times, this sounds more like BLAKAGIR which is the same mastermind behind, although that band is purely orchestral / classical / dark music, whereas here there are still lots of distorted guitars and extreme vocals. This music would fit in no time with maybe those epic battles form movies like “Lord of the Rings”, specially depicting those horrible Orcs with their swords dripping blood. And for a change, I enjoyed this one. Yep, the epic BATHORY albums come to mind, but then again it has a strange Greek Black Metal tone to this… or at least that sounds to my ears. On the last song ‘Smak Zniewolenia’ I can hear to some more Heavy Metal tones. A very atmospheric album, where those possessed by brutality and speed will be lost to the strong orchestral / movie-music-like atmosphere, but on the other hand, it is also enjoyable in a very Metal way. And compared to what I have heard from this band, this might as well be one of their best efforts. www.myspace.com/hellveto, www.pagan-records.com
