This is already the fourth full-length release in 2006 of the Polish atmospheric Pagan Metal band HELLVETO. It’s quite impressive for a band (furthermore formed by only one member) in only one year, or perhaps just the contrary if we think about quality. I already said in another review that I’ve never been too impressed by the Polish Pagan Metal scene compared to others (especially the Ukrainian), although the bands in that country were among the first who started that style, and HELLVETO is no exception. From the very first moment you can imagine where they come from, with that midpaced Pagan Black Metal where keyboards have the most important place (which, exclusing some bands, like SUMMONING or ELFFOR for example, is never a good option for me, as it seems to hide the defects with the other instruments; even the guitars are hard to distinguish), and a combination of clean and harsh vocals, which are not too impressive again, with a distortion effect or something similar on the harsh ones, and even on some clear ones. Furthermore, the mix is not especially good, so in some moments it is a bit hard to listen to it without having to pay attention if you want to understand what you are listening to, although the last tracks seem to be quite better focused on that side. But I can’t say all is bad on this recording, as some moments are quite epic, like the third track, ‘Baltic Tale’ or the beautiful acoustic guitar track ‘Last Moments…’. For sure, this can be a good album for the ones who like that scene, but I think there are better things to listen to, even in that style. www.pulverised.net
