The Eyeless Horde

Hey man, that’s awesome! HOODED MENACE’s first recording, a demotape called “The Eyeless Horde” offers a mix between Death and Doom Metal which I haven’t heard for a long time. It reminds me a lot of my old favourites of CATHEDRAL (“Forest Of Equilibrium”-era! I can’t tell how much I enjoyed the song ‘Ebony Tears’!!!), some hints of AUTOPSY and a lot of WINTER is ready to hand, I even thought I heard influences from THERGOTHON while listening to “The Eyeless Horde”. Well, each comparison in this review shouldn’t mean that HOODED MENACE aren’t original, the comparisons are here for you to get the point what this outfit stands for: it’s Doom / Death Metal the way it was played in the early nineties, far away from commercial purposes and hitpotential. That’s what PARADISE LOST discovered later, haha. No seriously, this demo brings back great memories and convinces with 2 great tracks slow as hell, heavy as fuck and gloomy and dark as these Doom / Death Metal bands used to be! HOODED MENACE already signed a deal with Razorback Records and are currently preparing the songs for their debutalbum “Fulfill The Curse” due to be out sometime in 2008. The 2 songs are available for a free listen at www.myspace.com/hoodedmenace. Give it a try and support this band, whose musicstyle is far too unpopular these days, but too good to ignore! For those who needs even more old school flair: their guitarplayer / singer Lasse aka Leper Messiah is also on of the founding members and again playing in resurrected Finnish cult Death Metallers PHLEGETHON! That brings back great memories, too!
