The Devil's Music - Songs Of Death And Damnation
(Infernus Rex)
37:48min
Another case of a band progressing by light years between their first and second album. Even if I find HORNED ALMIGHTY previous effort very enjoyable (yes I know, I always use the same type of intro these days), I prefer the more accomplished “The Devil’s Music”. Maybe the more consistent line-up (the band is now a five piece) made a lot in this refining process. Anyway the result sounds convincing a great deal and offers a solid dose of demented Black / Thrash able to satisfy even the wildest of the Metalheads. HORNED ALMIGHTY remind me SUICIDAL WINDS a lot on this, let’s say the two bands have more or less the same approach when it comes to inflict aural pain (and joy) to their rabid listeners (and I include myself here!) Of course, the band didn’t invent anything; but the ten tracks on offer here provide enough bleeding riffs for comfort. Like I said, the music is mostly based on Thrash inspiration, even if HORNED ALMIGHTY don’t disdain the Black Metal vibes (like in ‘Glorious Horror’ or ‘Cursed With Insight’). The vocals of the mysteriously named S are in the same line than those of IMPALED NAZARENE’s Mikka, and now that I think of it, “The Devil’s Music” is not that far from “Pro Patria Finlandia”, the latest offering of the well known Finns, in terms of inspiration and sound. Add to this a very original cover art (done in the way of a XVIIth century woodcut, and depicting the Devil armed with a Flying V) and a crystal clear production doing justice to the natural sound of the instruments, and you get a damn fine release waiting to be invited on your record deck for numerous headbanging sessions. I am very glad to own this piece of plastic, and I just hope it will be the same with you. Support real Metal! www.hornedalmighty.com.
