The number of bands and projects in which Rogga Johansson is involved, one might have long since stopped counting. However, his HOUSE BY THE CEMETARY project is definitely worth to have a look at. The collaboration between former MONSTROSITY screamer Mike Hrubovcak, PAGNIZER drummer Matthias Fiebig and Rogga Johansson has just released their second album “The Mortuary Hauntings”. Which turns out to be an excellent piece of old school Death Metal in the vein of the sound of the genre-founders, as well the Scandinavians as also the ones from the United States. Compared to the debut album “Rise Of The Rotten”, it is immediately noticeable that all the scratchy and itching Crust Punk elements are missing and have given way for a cleaner sound. Some listeners may find that is a pity – but the bottom line is, songs like ‘The Realm Of The Cursed’, ‘The Book Of Eibon’ or ‘Torture Severe’ are benefiting rather much from this cleaner sound, which roughly can now be located between older GRAVE and MONSTROSITY, AUTOPSY and DISMEMBER. There is now much more room to underline small instrumental details, which might be important, because after all, this project was created out of pure love for old horror films and the songs basically set individual scenes to music. Songs with buzzsaw-riffs and heavily thrashin’ drumparts which alternate to slow dangerous doomy mid-tempo parts like ‘Beware Of The Woods’ or ‘Beyond Oblivion’ and ‘Opening The Gates Of Hell’ are transporting the horror-feeling, transforming it into Death Metal. If one is in horror-mood it’s a good album to listen to. It’s better to get a copy, I guess… https://pulverised.bandcamp.com, www.facebook.com/pulverisedrecords
