The Eternal Fanfare

Out of the blue. Out of the fucking blue HULDER came. She came out of nowhere. She rode in on her lugubrious flying arclight and entered our world in 2018. Eleven total releases later (yes, eleven), and the corpse-painted badass from Washington, USA unleashes her best work yet. If only other artists had this much creative output in so little time. If only other artists chose to take the fucking world by its balls and squeeze until infertility sets in. HULDER does just that with her second EP “The Eternal Fanfare”. ‘Curse From Beyond’ is an atmospheric, eerie, subtle beginning with beautiful choir-like vocals. Damn soothing, I must say. But fuck if ‘Burden Of Flesh And Bone’ doesn’t end that gentility. There’s an abundance of power in this track. The Black Metal guitars and her ‘no-way-to-tell-she’s-female, and-who-gives-a-shit-what-she-is’ vocals and an entropic wall of aural fury make this first real song a monstrous force to be reckoned with. ‘Sylvan Awakening’ has a very recognizable Black Metal feel to it, and that’s absolutely fine. The sheer atmosphere and demolishing guitars echo the beat of the scraping vocals and murderous drums. And damn, if ‘The Eternal Fanfare’ doesn’t kick in the fortress’ doors with true abandon. This is a more cohesive array of tracks than other releases of her’s, which shows a discipline and maturity in her songwriting. The final track ‘A Perilous Journey’ slows things down a little bit, allowing us all to catch our breath and settle our asses down. But in no way does it lose its power. No fucking way. “The Eternal Fanfare” is proof that HULDER isn’t just a speck in the Black Metal community. It seems she’s here to stay. And boy do we need this in our lives.
