IFRYT, from Poland, has truly captured my attention with their latest EP, “Nudy”, released in September 2024. This six-track journey weaves together atmospheric Black Metal, Speed Metal, Heavy Metal and even some kinds of Hardcore Punk brushstrokes that the band will maintain all across the album, creating a soundscape that is both haunting and mesmerizing. From the very first sounds of that opening track ‘Jod’, we are enveloped in a rich tapestry of ethereal melodies arising from that synth which may transport us to the most distant corners of the cosmos. They jump right after that to the track ‘Frustracja Seksualna Jest Źródłem Mocy Vril’, exemplifying the band’s ability to balance the raw intensity of Black Metal with a serene beauty, showcasing also haunting clean vocals and again those kinds of Hardcore Punk moments all together. The EP is a masterclass in experimentation, with tracks like ‘Dolina Latających Żab’ or ‘Dziady Część VII’, sounding pure “traditional” Black Metal, while maintaining a sense of cohesion that is often elusive in experimental music. That seamless transition, incorporating hints of all these genres together, elevates the listening experience to new heights. We should say for the most part that this EP is the result of the band’s evolution since they started back in 2017 and that reflects the maturity that they add to the EP from their experience. The EP includes the track ‘Gob Of Spit’, a cover of an avant-garde music group from New York named NAKED CITY, which, even when it is just a three seconds gargle, advises us of the horizons that the band might reach musically wise. The presentation of “Nudy” is striking, featuring an artwork picture that echoes the ephemeral nature of the music itself. If you’re looking for a transformative experience that combines emotional depth with the musical complexity of different genres together, “Nudy” might be a perfect listen.
